Welcome to Ushago Homestead
"Ushago” is a Swahili (Kenya) colloquial word, that means ‘a rural home’ often built of earth, (also known as cob in the West). Many ushago homesteads are designed to be self sustainable, with families living a simple and natural lifestyle. This is the essence of what Ushago Homestead has to offer visitors.
Who We Are
We are a group of Kenyans, who are proud to inherit and preserve our traditional house building techniques. Our goals are to enable people in Kenya, living in the urban and surburbs of Nairobi, to become self sustainable and eco-friendly, by building their own affordable and sustainable /mudcob houses or structures using the Kenyan Traditional natural building mud technology, inherited from our ancestors.
We are passionate about keeping it simple, natural and affordable and accessible to all, this way many more people in Kenya will be free and able to build their own homes, breaking out of the stressful long term mortgage rut.

Location
Ushago Homestead is convienently located in the leafy and serene surburbs of Karen, Nairobi. We are five minutes away from the Karen Shopping Center, and about thirty minutes away from Nairobi City, which can be accessed by bus or taxi. We are close to many well known places of interest to visit, like the Karen Blixen museum, the Ngong Hills and the Giraffe centre. Even though we are close to the Karen Shopping Center, we still maintain a feeling of peacefulness and seclusion.
